On Thursday, April 27, classes 4/5M and 4H ( between Lunch and Recess ) walked down to North Broulee Beach for the annual Tangaroa Blue beach-cleanup.
They then sorted out the rubbish, and Mrs Hounsell logged it into the AMDI ( Australian Marine Data Initiative ) database. This helps the Tangaroa Blue Organization find the countries/companies contributing to most of the rubbish throughout the world. They then lobby them to try and reduce their rubbish which often ends up in the ocean as marine debris.
The school adopted South Broulee Beach, last year, in 2016.
For the section of North Broulee Beach the students cleaned up, they found 12.5 kilograms of Sea Debris, of which most was different types of plastic pieces, followed by plastic bag remnants.
In the future, however, we hope that collecting beach rubbish and logging on the AMDI will contribute to the cleanliness of our beaches.
